About Achankovil River
Achankovil River is also known as Achankovilaaru river or Achankovil Aar river. The river is also known as Kulallada River. Achankovil River is formed of several small streams namely Rishimala River, Ramakkalteri River and Pasukidametttu River that meet together in eastern Kerala. The length of this river is approximately 128 kms. This is also popular as a natural picnic spot among the locals.
Unique Features : In the river route, tourist can see the many ancient temples. These temples attracts many devotees and travelers. Main temple is Siva Temple. This temple is also famous as Kandiyoor Mahadeva temple. It is situated on the river banks. People believed that this temple is around 2200 years old and it made of black stones. Another well-known temple is Chettikulangara temple, that is also located here.
Edappon is another famous place that is lies on the banks of this river. This place is famous for flora and fauna. Achankovil Dam, that built on this river and provide the splendid view of surrounding natural location.
Townships on Achankovil River banks : Some major towns that located on the banks of the river are Pandalam, Padanilam, Mavelikkara, Chennithala, Veeyapuram Pathanapuram, Punalur etc. Pandalam is the pious town which is associated with Lord Ayyappa.
