Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary and Kannur town is home to a rich variety of Flora and Fauna. In year 1984, Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary was setup by separating regions from the Odanthode Malavaram of Thalassery special division. Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 55 sq km area and it is located in the northernmost protected area of Kerala state in Kannur district. In this Sanctuary you visit the thickly forested slopes of the Western Ghats, the sanctuary houses a wide variety animals and birds. Katti Betta is the highest peak of the region and it is situated at an altitude of 1145 meters.
In this region around 215 kinds of bird species and 172 kinds of butterflies are recorded.
Flora and Fauna in Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary : In this evergreen area you can visit the 23 species of mammals like Barking Deer, Malabar giant squirrel, Mouse Deer, Sambar Deer, Wild boar, Gaur, Leopards and even Tigers. Here you can visit also Elephant, Bison, Sambar, Deer, Boar, Sloth Bear. It is also home to more than 188 species of birds, 20 species of Amphibians and 22 species of reptiles including the King Cobra.
In this Sanctuary you can see the following species : Mesue ferrea, Mechilusmacrantha, calophyllum elatum, cullenia rosayroona, magnifera indica, toona cillata, myristica species, euphorbia longana, strobilanthes.
Near By tourist Attraction : Meenmutty Waterfalls, Chavachi Waterfalls and Ambalapara peak is the another tourist attraction near this Sanctuary that is most visited by tourists.
Best Time to Visit : Best season to visit the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary is September to March. Monsoon season should be preferably avoided.
