About Ashtamudi Lake
Ashtamudi Lake is one of the largest and deepest wetland ecosystems in Kerala. This Lake is stretching a length of 16kms that sharing 30% of Kollam town. The lake get its name Ashtamudi, because of its eight 'arms' or channels is the gateway to the backwaters. This name is indicative of the lake's topography: a lake with multiple branches. It is a palm-shaped (also called octopus-shaped) extensive water body with 8 prominent arms, adjoining the Kollam town. Ashtamudi Lake provide the panoramic and magnificent views. Surrounded location of Ashtamudi Lake is covered by red cliffs and swaying coconut palms.
Main river of Ashtamudi Lake is Kallada River, that flowing into this lake. Before merging into the Arabian Sea, all the eight channels of Ashtamudi Lake meet at the Neendakara Estuary.
