Darrang is an administrative district in the state of Assam in India. The district headquarters are located at Mangaldai. Darrang district is situated in the central part of Assam and on the Northern side of the river Mighty Brahmaputra.

Geography of Darrang
Darrang  istrict is bounded by Arunachal Pradesh (State) and Bhutan Country) in the North side. The district Sonitpur and Kamrup districts are in the East and West respectively. River Brahmaputra flows in the South side.

Latitude of Darrang city :  20 deg 9´N to 26 deg 95´N
Longitude of Darrang city :  91 deg 45´ E to 92 deg 22´ E

About Darrang
Darrang name was derived from the Bodo word Dourang, which means 'Lilabhumi' (Playground) of Gods. According to Scholar Late Dineswar Sarma, the word Darrang came from Dawrang which means gate, as there was direct entry to Bhutan and from there to Nepal, China etc. Gradually this was known as Darrang.
