Gajapati district is bounded by Ganjam district and Andhra Pradesh state on the east side, Rayagada district on the west side, Ganjam and Phulbani districts on the north side and Andhra Pradesh on the south side.

About Gajapati District
Gajapati became a separate district of Orissa with effect from 2nd October 1992. Gajapati district was named after Maharaja Sri Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deb, who is remembered for his contribution in formation of a separate Orissa province and inclusion of Paralakhemundi estate into Orissa.
