Katihar district is a districts of Bihar state, India. The administrative headquarters of this district is Katihar town.The district is a part of Purnia Division.

Geography of Katihar
Katihar district is surrounded by Purnea district in the North side and West Bhagalpur and Sahebganj district in the South side and West Bengal in the East side. Area of Katihar District is 3057 Sq. Kms.

Main Rivers :
The Mahananda and Ganges are the main rivers traversing Katihar District.

Latitude of Katihar city :    25 deg 42’ - 26 deg 22’ N
Longitude of Katihar city :  87 deg 10’ - 88 deg 05’ E.

About Katihar District
Katihar District  was one of the Subdivisions of the old Purnea district and was bifurcated as a separate district on 2nd October, 1973.

Katihar is famous for Railway Junction. Katihar is the Junction of seven Railway lines/routes.
Katihar is also famous for ‘Goga Jheel Pakshi Vihar’ near the bank of Ganga in Amdabad Block of Manihari Sub-division.
Katihar is also famous for Jute Mills. There are two Jute Mills at Katihar. But, at present no Jute Mill is in working condition.
