Khagaria district is an administrative district in the Bihar state in India. The district headquarters are located at Khagaria. Khagaria district is a part of Munger Division.
Geography of Khagaria
Khagaria district is bounded on north side by Saharsa District, on South side by Munger and Begusarai District, on east side by Bhagalpur and Madhepura District and on west side by Begusarai and Samastipur Districts. Khagaria district occupies an area of 1486 km².
Main Rivers : Ganga, the Burhi Gandak, the Bagmati, the Kamla and the Ghaghri (the mainstream of Koshi) are the main rivers of this district.

About Khagaria District
Khagaria District was a sub-division of Munger District in the past. This sub-division was formed in year 1943-44. Khagaria sub-division was given the status of a district in 1981 under Bihar state government notification.

In Khagaria District castes including Bhumihar, Brahmins, Kayshtha, Yadav, Barai, Rajput, Koari and Kurmi, Marwari and others, but Barai, Yadavs, Koeri and Kurmis are in majority. Major festivals are Chhat Pooja, Holi, Durga Pooja (Dushehra) and Dipawali.

Economy of Katihar District
Economy of the district is dependent entirely on agriculture and its two main allied activities, namely horticulture and dairy. Khagaria and Gogri Jamalpur are the two important trade centres. Main trading item is food grains. Due to the abundance of milch cattles in this area ,sale of milk and milk-product ,especially ghee is also an important business activity here.This has been a traditional occupation of this area.
