Kolar district is a district in Karnataka state of India. Kolar district is located in the southern region of the State and is the eastern-most district of the Karnataka State. The town of Kolar is the district headquarters.

Geography of Kolar
Geographical area of Kolar district is 3969 Sq. Kms. Kolar district is bounded by the districts of Bangalore and Tumkur on the west side and on all other sides by the districts of the adjoining States of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. On the east side by Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, On the north side, it is bounded by Anantapur district,  and on the south side by the districts of North Arcot and Dharmapuri of Tamil Nadu.

Main Rivers : The main rivers flowing are Palar, South Pinakini or Pennar, North Pinakini, and Papagani

Latitude of Kolar city :  12° 46´ and 13° 58´ North
Longitude of Kolar city : 77° 21´ and 78º 35´ East

About Kolar District

Kolar was known variously as Kolahala, Kuvalala and Kolala. Kolar was called Kolahalapura during the Middle Ages, but later came to be known as Kolar.

On 10 September 2007, Kolar district was bifurcated to form the new district of Chikballapur. According to the modern discovery of the Kolar Gold Fields, Kolar has become popularly known as the "Golden Land" of India.
