Raisen District is a district of Madhya Pradesh state of India. Raisen town is the district headquarters. District Raisen is part of Bhopal Division.

Raisen district is bouded by Sehore district lies in west side, Vidisha district in the north side, Sagar district in the east and south-east side, Narsimhapur district in the south-east side, Hoshangabad and Sehore districts in the south side.

Raisen district came into existence on 5 May, 1950. Raisen district was once part of the princely state of Bhopal.Raisen was an important center of administration from very early times. Sanchi, a religious center, has historical and archeological significance.
Raisen District name is takes from massive Fort. This fort is build on a sandstone hill, at the foot of which settles the town.'Raisen' is probably a corruption of Rajavasini or Rajasayan, the royal residence.
