Siwan district is one of the districts of Bihar state, India. Siwan town is the administrative headquarters of this district.
Geography of Siwan
Siwan district is bounded on the east side by the Saran district, on the north side by Gopalganj district and on the west and south side by two districts of U.P. viz. Deoria and Balia respectively. This District covering an area of 2219 sq. km.
Main Rivers : Rivers flowing through the district are Jharahi, Daha, Gandaki, Dhamati (Dhamahi), Siahi, Nikari and Sona.

About Siwan District
The present district limits came into existence only in 1972. Siwan, derived its name from "Shiva Man", a Bandh Raja whose heirs ruled this area till Babar’s arrival. Siwan, situated in the western part of the State, was originally a sub-division of Saran District, which in ancient days formed a part of Kosala Kingdom.
