Edathua Church is a devotional tourist place of Alleppey. It is a massive shrine on the banks of the river Pamba.
Location : Edathua Church is situated on the magnificently banks of one of the tributaries of Pamba river. It is located just 24 km from Alappuzha, on the Alappuzha - Thiruvalla Road.
About Edathua Church
Edathua Church was established in year 1810. This church is also known as St. George Catholic Church or “Eduthua Palli”. Church is dedicated to St. George. It is a well-known pilgrimage center for Christians. After the medieval European Churches, this church was architecturally designed. People believed that this church has some special power that miraculous cures of mental disorders and other ailments. So numerous people from all of South India make the pilgrimage to this church to seek the blessing of St. George.
Main Feast : Edathua Church is famous for its annual feast that is celebrated on 27 April to 7 May (the Malayalam month of Medam). This feast attracting people from all over the state of Kerala as well as the neighbouring states. Main celebration of this feast takes place only on the last few days. During the feast, the scenic statue of St.George, decked in gold, was carried out in procession and placed on the dais at the centre of the Basilica to bless the devotees. During this festival holy mass and novena are held on all days but in Tamil and Malayalam.
