About Gundert Bungalow
Gundert Bungalow was the home of Dr. Herman Gundert. He was the famous German scholar and missionary and brought out the very first Malayalam English dictionary.. He lived here from year 1839 and carrying out his literary, scholarly and missionary activities. Gundert Bungalow is situated on a beautiful hill named Illikkunnu, near Thalassery town.
It is also the place where the first Malayalam newspaper Paschimodayam was published. It is the one of the oldest newspaper in Malayalam language.The credited of this newspaper is also goes to Dr. Herman Gundert. Other works of Gundert are Malayala Rajyam, Christu Sabha, Vajrasooji, Muhamadeeya Charitram, Manushya Hridayam,and Kerala Pazhama.
The bulding of this Bungalow is also famous for its architectural work. It built in the shape of watchtower. The building of this Bungalow is built in typical English style and the surroundings of the bungalow are both tranquil and graceful.
