Kamakshi Temple is also known as Shri Kamakshi Temple and it is one of virtuous place and mostly visited by the devotees in Goa.


Location : Kamakshi Temple is located in Shiroda which is situated 12 kms away from the Village of Kavlem in Ponda taluka, Goa


About Kamakshi Temple

Shri Kamakshi Temple is more than 500 years old temple. Late 16th century this temple was built. Originally this temple was located at Raia in Salcette but present location of this temple is Shiroda. Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamaksh, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, consort of Shiva. Goddess Kamakshi is a form of Tripura Sundari or Parvati or the universal mother goddess. The temple is must visited by the hindu people on Amavasya.


The other shrines in the temple complex are that of Shree Laxmi Narayana, Shree Shantadurga and Shree Rayeshwar. The image of Mahishasurmardini form of the goddess is worshipped here. Main tower design of this temple is quite marvelous with the roof bearing stark resemblance to that of a Buddhist pagoda.The temple doors here are embellished well with silver foil work. 


History Of Temple 

Originally Kamakshi Temple was situated at Raia in Salcette. But in year 1564-1568, this shrine is moved and present location of this tempel is Shiroda, Goa. This reason to move this temple was the  Goa Inquisition and Portuguese demolished almost all the Hindu shrines.


Facility : The temple comples also has a Kamakshi Canteen is the good place for food.
