About Kappad Beach
Kappad Beach is a pleasant stretch of rock-studded beach and it is best known for sandy shores and historical seriousness. This beach is surrounded by rocks. Locally Kappad is known as Kappakadavu and it is renowned for the beach where the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama landed on May 20, 1498. In honor of Vasco Da Gama there is monument installed, which contains an inscription that reads “Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498".
Other attraction of this beach is there is a small temple situated on a rock and it believed that this temple is to be over 800 years old. The view of the sunset is also a worth seeing. The beach, strewn with country fishing boats is ideal for relaxation.
Historic past : The historic past of this beach is Vasco da Gama (1460-1524), the Portuguese voyager landed on this Beach on 27th May 1498 with 170 men. And stepped into Kerala to create a new chapter in history.
