Kottiyoor Shiva Temple is situated in a small village Kottiyoor. Kottiyoor is well-knonw as Varanasi of the South aka Dakshina Kashi. This temple is known as the Shree Kottiyoor Mahadeva Kshetram. It is also known as Kottiyoor Siva Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.
Kottiyoor Mahadeva Temples has two renowned Shiva temples. The name of this these temples are Akkara Kottiyoor and the Ikkara Kottiyoor, both are located in deep forests in Kannur District of Kerala. Both these temples are situated on the banks of Bavali River. Sri Kottiyoor temple is also known as the "Dakshina Kashi" or "Varanasi of the South". During the "Vaisakha Maholsavam", Sri Kottiyoor temple attracts lakhs of devotees every year.
Legend about this temple : The father of Devi Sati, Daksha Prajapathy performed a Yaga at this place. The against wishes of her father, Devi Sati had married Lord Shiva.
