About Oorpazhachi Kavu Temple
Oorpazhachi Kavu Temple is old and pristine holy shrine. Sree Oorpazhachi Kavu is also known as ooril pazhakiya eachil kavu or ooril pazhakiya achi kavu. The temple has three major deities namely Sree Oorpazhachi Daivathar, Bhagavathy and Vettakkorumakan (also known as Kiratha Sunu). These deities are installed at inner courtyard (naalambalam) of the temple.In this temple you also see the rare significance of Shaiva - Vaishnava - Shaktheya sanctums.
The sub shrine of this temple is dedicated to Thondachan. That is located upper citadel (Mele Kottam). Here lot's of devotees offerings of areca nut, beetle leaves and dried rice. There are umpteen legends associated with the temple at the deities.
Temple Design :
The structure of present temple was renovated in the mid 19th century in traditional architectural style.
Major Attraction : Mandala Vilakku is the famous festival of this temple that is celebrated in the months of November and December. This festival is celebrated on 41 days in this temple. Other most important festival of this temple are Shivarathri Mahotsavam, Pattathanam, Vellattom and Kaliyattom (ritualistic dance performances).
