This festival is celebrated on the last day of Baisakh which corresponds to the month of April.

Sarhul Festival in Bihar is celebrated by the tribal communities of Oraon, Santhal and Mundras who populate the regions of Jharkhand, Bihar and Orissa.


Worship in Festival
Sarhul is the worship of nature in which the people worship Dharti Mata as Sita


About Festival
The festival reminds the joyous mood of people and is celebrated when the Sal trees bloom with flowers.This is a spring festival that is celebrated when the sal trees bloom with flowers.


Sarhul is the festival of flowers and is the most popular of all the tribal festivals.It is just like a Vasant-mahotsava of India.The meaning of Sarhul is ‘Worship of Sal.’ Nature and soil have long been worshiped in India by masses and there is reason for this Sarhul is the worship of nature in which the people worship Dharti Mata as Sita, the wife of Lord Ram.People also worship water, wind, plants and animals.


During the Sarhul Festival in Bihar,Sal flowers are brought to the sarna (sacred grove) and the priest propitiates all the gods of the tribes. A wine Hadia or Diang, made of stale rice is the ’Prasad’ of this festival.


Santhals refer to this festival as Baha and celebrated this festival in month of February and March. They perform a traditional Sarhul Dance at this time. Sarhul Festival lasts for a number of days.
