About Sri Subramanya Swami Temple
People believed that Sri Subramanya Swami Temple was constructed by Lord Parasurama. Lord Parasurama was one of the ten incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The references of Hindu Puranas like Brahmanda Purana, you can see the narration about this temple and the temple town Payyanur. According to Brahmanda Purana, the temple being mentioned while sage Garga explains about Kerala to the Pandavas during their exile (vanavasa).
Main deity of this temple is Lord Subrahmanya. In this temple you see the 6 ft tall idol of Lord Subramanya that is the another attraction of this temple. Other deity of this temple are Lord Kshetrapalan, Lord Kanya Bhagavath, Lord Ganapathi and Parasurama.
According to history, this temple was demolished twice but in Malayalam era in 967 this temple was reconstructed and became a major religious place for Hindu people.
About Temple Design :
Sri Subramanya Swami Temple is holy Shrine for Hindu people. The wall of this temple built in the Kara architectural style, is around 12 ft tall. The architecture of this temple is provide the delight to visitors and devotees. This temple is spread over the 3 acres Land. The temple is two-storied sreekovil "sanctum sanctorum" and it is built in a shape of Gajaprishta (that resembles the back of an elephant).
Main Attarction : 6 ft tall idol of Lord Subramanya, Ilanji tree, Temple complex are the main attraction of this temple. “Ilanji” tree is situated in the front-yard of the temple. In this tree devotees see the flower but never see fruits.
Visiting Timing : Sri Subramanya Swami Temple opened 4 am to 12 pm and 5 pm - 9 pm.
