About Thalassery Fort
Thalassery Fort is also known as Tellicherry Fort and it is located in Thalassery (Tellicherry) a town in Kannur District of Kerala state in south India. It is Situated near the Thalasseri beach.
When the British East India Company established its settlement on the Malabar Coast then In year 1708, British East India Company was built this fort on a small hill called Tiruvellapadkunnu. The main aim to built this fort is a stronghold of British East India Company on the Malabar Coast. It was a military centre of the British troops.
At a present time this fort is a historical monument and preserved by Archaeological Survey of India.
Structure of the Fort
The structure of Thalassery Fort is in the form of square and it made of laterite stone, and is distinguished by its massive ventilated walls and strong flanking bastions. Thalassery Fort has secret tunnels that leads to the sea and intricately carved huge doors. It was that place where, Hyder Ali, ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore was imprisoned. The structure of this Fort is as magnificent.
